Yogurt might be the next hot item for weight loss, according to a review from researchers at University Laval in Quebec City, Canada. The researchers state that yogurt is important for weight management and energy balance and might play a role in lowering the risk for type 2 diabetes. Yogurt helps replace less healthy foods in the diet, has specific nutrients such as calcium and protein that help control appetite and blood sugar, and helps alter gut microbiota. Preliminary research suggests that yogurt increases body fat loss, decreases food intake, and increases satiety. It also lowers the glycemic and insulin response, and alters gut hormone responses.
Adding a polyphenol-enriched yogurt to the diet of overweight people reduced body weight, blood pressure, LDL-cholesterol levels, and lipid peroxidation, while improving the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut, in a study from the University of Tessaly in Greece.
