vegetarianPeople who frequently eat red meat, especially processed meats, are at highest risk for dying prematurely, according to a study from the Karolinska Institute. In this meta-analysis that summarized the evidence from nine prospective studies, the researchers found that all-cause mortality increased 10% in people who consumed the most red meat compared to those who ate the least, and rose by 23% for people eating processed meats, such as luncheon meats, hot dogs, bacon, sausage, pepperoni, and ham. People who ate the most red meat and processed meat showed a 29% increased risk for premature death from any cause.
