Elizabeth Somer, M.A., is a registered dietitian who has carved a unique professional niche as a dietitian well-versed in nutrition research. For the past 35 years, she has kept abreast of the current research, packaging that information into her newsletter Nutrition Alert, easy-to-read books, magazine articles, lectures, continuing education seminars, spokesperson projects, and practical news for the media.
Ms. Somer has been a frequent guest on NBC’s Today show for the past ten years, a monthly guest since 1995 on AM Northwest (KATU, Channel 2 in Portland, OR), and was Nutrition Correspondent for NBC’s Later Today from 1999 to 2000 and for Good Morning America (ABC) from 1996 to 1999. She has appeared regularly on other national television programs, including the WB’s Daily Buzz, Lifetime Live, The Maury Povich Show, CNN, the CBS Morning Show and The View. Her one-hour special on Age-Proof Your Body aired nationwide on Public Television in 2001 and she was awarded the Red Dress Award for her contribution to healthy eating in America in 2012.
She is the author of several books, including her most recent Eat Your Way to Sexy, as well as Eat Your Way to Happiness, 10 Habits That Mess Up a Woman’s Diet, Age-Proof Your Body (McGraw-Hill), Nutrition for Women, 2nd edition, Nutrition for a Healthy Pregnancy, 2nd edition, The Origin Diet, Food & Mood, The Food & Mood Cookbook, The Essential Guide to Vitamins and Minerals, and co-author of The Nutrition Desk Reference. She is a Advisory Board member to Shape Magazine, past Contributor to Prevention and Eating Well Magazines, and has written more than 300 articles in national magazines from Shape, Men’s Fitness, McCalls, and Self to Redbook, Prevention, Cosmopolitan, Fitness, and Better Homes & Gardens.
